Shalom!

In the Gospels, Jesus often uses the greeting “Peace be unto you,” a translation of shalom aleichem.

**I couldn’t even begin to translate this word the way Mr. Silver did.  This is a beautiful description of the word Shalom!

By David Silver from the Refiner’s Fire

The Hebrew word SHALOM is understood around the world to mean peace. But peace is only one small part of the meaning of the word SHALOM. Here in Israel, even though we don’t have much in the way of peace, we use the word SHALOM on a daily basis. We use it to greet people with, and we use it to bid farewell to people. However, SHALOM means much more than peace, hello or goodbye.

Strong’s Concordance 7965 – Hebrew Shalom ….. A word study in the New King James version for SHALOM says: Completeness, wholeness, health, peace, welfare, safety soundness, tranquility, prosperity, perfectness, fullness, rest, harmony, the absence of agitation or discord.

Shalom comes from the root verb Shalom meaning to be complete, perfect and full. In modern Hebrew the obviously related word Shelem means to pay for, and Shulam means to be fully paid.

Sar SHALOM (Prince of Peace) is one of the descriptive names the Bible uses to indicate the ministry and personality of the Messiah: Isaiah 9:6 – The Son of God is completely perfect in all things.

So in essence, when you speak out the word SHALOM – you are not only proclaiming peace, but all the above meanings of the word over that person – that’s a mighty blessing!!!

Remember what the word of God says – “there is life or death in the power of the tongue”.

We recently heard someone on a Christian TV program say: “No wonder the Jewish people are so blessed, because every time they say Shalom to one another, they are also allowing the full meaning (see above) of SHALOM to be pronounced over them. He humorously proceeded to say that this greeting word would be much more beneficial to the American people if they greeted each other with SHALOM instead of their usual “Hi” or “Howdy” greeting. As Josie and I adapted to life in Israel, we adapted to the SHALOM habit over the “Hi” habit….As Messianic Jews, we are called to bless you and we take that very seriously, by praying for you and by greeting you with SHALOM. Therefore, from now on, when we or someone says SHALOM to you, you should receive it as a tremendous blessing. And bless them back with a hearty SHALOM!”

Numbers 6:24-26: The Lord bless you and keep you. The Lord make His face shine upon you and be gracious to you. The Lord lift up His face upon you and give you SHALOM. In the name of SAR SHALOM – the Prince of Peace.

Out of the box: red flag churches?

So, people who know me, know I am out of the box.  Meaning, I’m open to alot of different beliefs, different ways of living, loving, and worshipping.  Now, having said that, please be gentle with your comments.  God is important to me, it is why I am here.  I may go to a different church than you, may worship differently but doesn’t mean I am not a child of His.  I am, and am totally assured of that.

I focus in sometimes on the current “trend” in religion.  (Truthspeaker’s spits it out loud and clear) Lately that has freaked me out so much that I want to crawl into a box!!    I have been digging into these articles, doing cross searches, Bible referencing and fact checking.  Very interesting folks.  And for one who tends to be a bit open to alot, some of this scares me.  Being raised Southern Baptist, getting out of the Mormon cult after 10 years, and loving the Pentecostal movement (from afar), and very much a hippie earth lover at heart……well, I’m well rounded I suppose.  But weary.

Who is this Rick Joyner, what is this IHOP church???……wow!!  These “churches” are making an impact folks.  They are rocking and shaking some folks…..Even this little rural country girl is noticing red-flags in the blogging world.  Is this what Jesus intended?  Is this really how it is?  Is it really what the Bible says?? (there is the kicker!)

Without being judgemental: my thoughts are to stay away (thought to self: isn’t that judgemental?) , bury my face in the Word, lay at His feet, worship Him the way I know how…..not how someone else tells me too….and Love Him & be very, very quiet, so I can hear.

Shalom,

Kelly

My Torah Class

Some of you have noticed under the who I am section that I have a yearning for the Torah.  I feel like God is giving me meat lately, digging in, really looking at His Words and how they intertwine throughout.

This is the website that I have been learning from if anyone ever has an interest.  He goes line by line, which I love.  The kiddos are listening in with me.

Update on “Noise”

Yesterday a few of you noticed that we decided to have a “Electronic free” afternoon. Well, two hours into it, we caved! LOL…..I gave us all 30 minutes worth of whatever noise they wanted, then it was off till Daddy came home. He made his famous homemade popcorn and requested “the Incredibles” which is his favorite movie!! Such a kid at heart. How could I not let my husband watch his favorite movie?? We did play two rounds of my favorite board game, “Sequence”.

I think as HS Mama’s we can let the “noise” into our homes easier than others. We have the time, we want them to see it all and not miss anything, we think that maybe they “need” the noise for some reason for some sort of teaching experience. Well, at least I used to think that.

Teaching the art of quietness is a good thing for children of any age. We need to quiet our minds, and emotions in order to hear the Holy Spirit chatting to us….whispering to us. I don’t want to miss that; and in this day and age I believe it is an important skill.

New Year God thoughts

Jeremiah 29:11   For I know the thoughts that I think toward you, says the LORD, thoughts of peace and not of evil, to give you a future and a hope.

Just having moments of HOPE!  Having the need to tell people to not stay so busy that you miss your BEST!!  I think that our God wants to “give us” things.  Give us Hope, give us prosperity, give us blessings, give us favor!!  It’s time to stop being so grumpy and grumbbly; and claim the goodness that we are promised!!  If we are going to claim the heritage of being children of God they it’s time to start acting like it!

Just a thought!  *smile*  Our finances are incredibly low because of 2 weeks off, the LP gas is low, temps. are falling dramatically, and still the car is in the shop……….ug!  I could grump and grumble; but I won’t.  I won’t even go there.  I expect good things today!!!  I expect the blessings & favor!!

I think it’s time to turn off the tv ……….. all the negative, and claim the goodness!!  Step out in faith!

Blessings!!

The Making of Soap

The beginning of the this year went up with a *bang…..literally!! On electric blew. Actually I told my Love, “the breaker smells HOT, honey!!” Well, about 10 minutes later, it was a smoking!! So, the little, little $$ that I receive from the library ….. all of that was used for a new breaker box, fuses (or whatever!), and a fellow home-school Dad who is an Electrician to make an emergancy run. God is good though!! It was just enough money to do the job.

With the downsize of my Sweetie not working full weeks the last two weeks because of holiday, pay checks are so small. But that is okay. My skills as a frugal, hippie Mama have kicked in. We’ve run out of Tide for the HE washer, so I made some…..see Simple Dollar for a great tutorial…..making some homemade tortillas tonight for dinner with spiced chicken, cilantro & sour cream….and an apple pie for endings.

When times, especially financial, are looking dreary……it is so very important not to be negative and forget to seek the face of God on a daily, even hourly (highly suggested!) basis. Our thoughts effect (and even IN-fect) our Faith!! Be strong Sisters!!
